08.12.2021 To enhance public safety, an awareness campaign titled "A Detector in Every Home" is being conducted nationwide until December 12th to prevent fatalities from fires in residential buildings.
During the campaign, inspection commissions will intensify their work, involving all relevant prevention entities. Individual prevention measures will be carried out, including the installation of autonomous fire detectors and checks of their functionality in the homes of lonely and single elderly citizens, large families, and other target groups of the campaign.
Most fires in apartments and private homes occur while people are asleep. In their sleep, individuals cannot smell smoke, making them most vulnerable and unable to react quickly to a dangerous situation. Experience shows that homes equipped with autonomous fire detectors significantly increase the safety level of their residents. In 2020 alone, 24 people, including 3 children, were saved in the Vitebsk region thanks to the activation of autonomous fire detectors. This year, 27 people, including 5 children, have already been saved. One such rescue occurred on the morning of February 21st of this year on Frantsisk Skorina Street in the city of Polotsk. At the time of the fire, the father and three children were asleep in the apartment, while the mother had gone to work. Upon hearing the alarm from the autonomous fire detector, the eldest daughter and the father discovered a fire originating from a computer in the children's room. After waking the younger children, the entire family safely evacuated the dwelling. The father disconnected the electricity and attempted to extinguish the fire himself, but this was impossible due to heavy smoke. The fire was extinguished by the Ministry of Emergency Situations personnel. The fire resulted in smoke-stained walls and damaged property within the apartment. The cause of the fire was a violation of the rules for operating electrical networks and equipment.
We believe that no further arguments are needed to emphasize the necessity of installing an autonomous fire alarm. And you will agree that its cost, which is just over 10 rubles, is incomparable to the price of the consequences caused by fires, destroying property accumulated over years, and sometimes, taking human lives. The installation of the alarm does not require special knowledge or skills. The set includes a detailed instruction manual containing all the necessary information on installation, design, and operating rules. It is recommended to install the API in the central part of the ceiling with a slight shift towards the window or door – where constant air exchange is ensured. A particularly effective solution could be connecting the alarms into a single network with neighboring houses or apartments, or routing the alarm signal to a light and sound device located on the facade of the building. If the owners of the house where the fire occurred do not react to the signal, passers-by or neighbors, who will simultaneously have their alarms triggered, will raise the alarm.
