Vitebsk region has commenced sowing flax, corn, and early vegetables.

17 April, Vitebsk /Alena Tikhonova - BELTA/. The Vitebsk region has started sowing flax, maize, early vegetables and planting potatoes. This was reported to a BELTA correspondent by the Committee for Agriculture and Food of the Regional Executive Committee.

According to operational data, flax has already been sown on an area of 70 hectares, maize on 130 hectares, and early vegetables (green peas, onions, carrots) on 137 hectares. Potato planting has begun in the region, with work carried out on an area of 140 hectares. The region's agricultural producers are actively sowing early cereals and legumes (almost 40% of the areas have been sown), as well as rapeseed (15% of the areas have been completed).

Farms have completed the top dressing of winter cereals and winter rapeseed, and are carrying out top dressing of hayfields, pastures and perennial grasses. "The good weather established in the region has allowed us to start chemical weeding of winter cereals. This work is being carried out in all regions. The region's farms are completing the selection of elite seeds (80% are already in place) and continue to apply organic fertilizers for maize," the Regional Committee for Agriculture and Food noted.

In total, spring sowing will include 280 thousand hectares of cereals, over 50 thousand hectares of rapeseed, 100 thousand hectares of maize, 17 thousand hectares of flax, and 5 thousand hectares of potatoes.-0-
