Vitebsk region has determined the candidates for membership in the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of the seventh convocation, a BELTA correspondent was informed by the main department of organizational and personnel work of the regional executive committee.
Discussion of candidates for the upper house of parliament took place at joint meetings of the presidiums of local Councils of Deputies and executive committees. A total of eight candidates have been nominated.
Liozno, Gorodok, Shumilino and Vitebsk districts will be represented by Anatoly Shchastny, Doctor of Medical Sciences and Rector of Vitebsk State Medical University. The authoritative head of the university and experienced physician is currently a sitting member of the Council of the Republic. In Vitebsk, the candidacy of Elena Pantyukhova, Director of the "Vitebsk" TV and radio company, was proposed. A native of Vitebsk, she knows her hometown and its problems well and has also been elected to the upper house of parliament.
Yury Derkach may represent Orsha and Dubrovno districts. He is a Doctor of Medical Sciences and has been heading the healthcare system of Vitebsk region for almost ten years. For the first time, Dmitry Demidov, Chairman of the Novopolotsk City Executive Committee, has joined the list of campaign participants. He became the candidate from Novopolotsk and Rossony.
The list of contenders also includes Irina Levkovich, Head of the Main Department of Trade and Services of the regional executive committee. Her candidacy was supported in Beshenkovichi, Senno, Chashniki and Tolochin. Lepel, Dokshitsy, Glubokoe and Ushachi districts may be represented in the upper house of parliament by Oleg Zhingel, Deputy of the Regional Council of Deputies, Head of the Vitebsk region branch of OJSC "Belagroprombank".
Also among the campaign participants are Vladimir Matveev, General Director of KUP "Vitebskobldorstroy" (Braslav, Miory, Postavy and Sharkovshchina districts), and Tatyana Polushkina, Director of Polotsk College of Vitebsk State University named after P.M. Masherov (from Polotsk and Verkhnedvinsk districts).
Elections of members of the Council of the Republic will be held throughout the country on November 7 at joint meetings of deputies of local Councils of the basic level by secret ballot.
