This instruction was given today by the Chairman of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee, Alexander Kosinets, during a personal reception of citizens, according to a BELTA correspondent. The governor's instruction is related to the appeal of a resident of the regional center who helps the animals kept in the shelter. The woman raised the issue of providing veterinary care for dogs and cats, as, according to her, the only full-time veterinarian is unable to help all needy animals at once. She also touched upon the emerging rumors that the animals allegedly lack food. Alexander Kosinets refuted this information. "Waste from the Vitebsk Meat Processing Plant, which sponsors the shelter, is available to provide food for the animals. This is just populism of certain individuals. At the same time, if volunteers like to help, please, I always welcome it," the governor emphasized. Currently, there are over 300 animals in the shelter. In this regard, the issue of finding owners for them becomes quite acute. According to the governor, advertisements in regional newspapers do not bring the desired effect. "Not everyone even knows that we have such a shelter, because active and targeted information work by animal protection activists and shelter volunteers is not being carried out," stated Alexander Kosinets, recommending to work more with the rural population. According to Alexander Kosinets, the immediate plans concerning this facility include updating the animal catching vehicles, expanding the extension, and making the building enclosed to improve the living conditions of the pets. In general, it will develop, as the problem of stray animals does not lose its relevance. "There should be no packs of dogs in the city. This is a matter of safety for both children and adults. In addition, residents who own pets, especially aggressive dog breeds, must comply with the rules for keeping them, walk them in muzzles and in designated areas. And this issue must be seriously monitored," concluded the Chairman of the Regional Executive Committee. -0-
