12 August, Vitebsk /Alena Tikhonova - BELTA/. The Vitebsk Employment Centre dispatches around 70 people daily to assist rural residents, the Department for Labour, Employment and Social Protection of the Vitebsk City Executive Committee informed a BELTA correspondent.
The labour contingent includes pensioners, people on holiday, and the unemployed. "This form of employment is popular among Vitebsk residents who have spare time. By helping rural residents with the harvest, one can earn from Br50,000 to Br90,000 per day, and additionally, bring back several kilograms of vegetables from each such assignment – farms partially compensate temporary workers with produce. Over the season, it is easy to provide a family with vegetables and fruits for the entire winter," the employment service emphasised.
The Department dispatches workers to farms in Vitebsk and Gorodok districts. OJSCs "Lipovtsy", "Vozrozhdenie", "Rudakovo", SPC "Olgovskoye", KUSKhP "Severny", as well as RUP "Vitebsk Zonal Institute of Agriculture of NAS of Belarus" readily use the assistance of townspeople. These enterprises cultivate large quantities of beetroot, carrots, cabbage, and potatoes, which townspeople help to harvest. Additionally, extra labour is employed at livestock complexes and for clearing sown areas of stones.
The Employment Centre receives applications from the Luzhesnyanskaya Variety Testing Station annually. Additional labour is attracted for harvesting apples and pears. Up to 15 townspeople work in the orchard daily.
The harvest season for main vegetables and fruits in the Vitebsk region has just begun. Its peak traditionally falls in late August - September. During this period, the city employment centre will dispatch up to 150 people daily to assist rural residents. -0-
