Vitebsk law enforcement officers have detained another suspect in a criminal case of illegal migration, reported the official representative of the Investigative Committee of the Republic of Belarus for the Vitebsk region, Inna Gorbacheva, to BELTA correspondent.
During the investigation of a criminal case against two residents of the Russian Federation, suspected of organizing illegal migration, their accomplice, a resident of Belarus, has been detained. Currently, employees of the 7th Department (for the Vitebsk region) of the Main Directorate for Combating Organized Crime and Corruption of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Belarus are establishing his role in the criminal chain.
A group of eight illegal immigrants, including citizens of Vietnam, Iraq, and Afghanistan, as well as two Russians born in 1982 and 1976, suspected of organizing their illegal transit from Moscow to Lithuania through the territory of Belarus, were detained on January 8 in the Polotsk district. A criminal case has been initiated against the Russian citizens by the Investigative Committee of the Republic of Belarus for the Vitebsk region under Article 371-1, Part 2 ("Organization of illegal migration"), the sanctions of which provide for imprisonment from 3 to 7 years with possible confiscation of property.
