30 September, Vitebsk /Olga Bogacheva - BELTA/. A contraband consignment of cigarettes worth Br172 million has been seized in the Verkhnedvinsk district, the head of the operational search department of the Vitebsk Customs, Petr Markachevsky, informed a BELTA correspondent.
During joint operations by officers of the contraband combating department of the Vitebsk Customs and the KGB Directorate for the Vitebsk Region, a channel for the illegal movement of cigarettes across the border at the "Bigosovo-2" republican customs clearance point in the Verkhnedvinsk district was disrupted. Specifically, during the inspection of a freight train travelling on the Polotsk-Daugavpils route, 130 boxes were discovered in three wagons containing coal. Each box held 50 cartons, with 500 packs of Belarusian-made cigarettes in each carton. In total, the consignment comprised 65,000 packs of cigarettes with a total value of Br172 million.
The cargo has been seized. An administrative process has been initiated in this regard. -0-
