"Vitebskiye Virtuosos" Balalaika Octet has prepared a festive programme for Old New Year. As reported to BELTA by the Vitebsk Regional Philharmonic, the concert "New Year Kaleidoscope: From Classics to Jazz" will take place on January 13.
The exclusively female octet "Vitebskiye Virtuosos", led by Tamara Shafranova, will perform together with the philharmonic soloist Leonid Kozharsky (tenor). The philharmonic assures that well-known melodies performed by skilled balalaika players will undoubtedly create a good mood and fill with warmth the widely loved holiday (with a name strange to modern people) Old New Year.
"The 'Vitebskiye Virtuosos' ensemble, a laureate of international competitions and festivals, tirelessly proves that the beloved folk instrument, the balalaika, is capable of mastering all genres. The programme is designed to allow listeners to see this for themselves. The festive evening will feature lyrical songs, Spanish motifs, jazz, and contemporary works," the philharmonic emphasised. The concert will include popular music by Amilcare Ponchielli, Carlos Gardel, Jack Fina, as well as Vitebsk-born Yevgeny Magalif. The concert starts at 16:00.
The philharmonic also expects children on Old New Year. Young spectators will see the magical musical performance "Winter Tale. Continuation". The audience will embark on a fairy-tale journey with a girl Masha and her mother, a fairy. The performance is rich in vibrant dance and vocal numbers. Screenings will take place on January 13 and 14, starting at 11:00.
