By 2020, the capacity of Belarus's external internet gateway will exceed 2 Tbit/s, BelTA was informed by RUP "Beltelecom".
The capacity of the external internet gateway is formed by two authorised operators: Beltelecom and the National Traffic Exchange Centre. The volume of Beltelecom's external internet access channel currently stands at 610 Gbit/s. Over the past five years, this figure has increased 15-fold.
Beltelecom monitors in real-time the demand for internet resources by Belarusian users. This allows for prompt decisions on expanding the external gateway in proportion to the growing user needs, both in the eastern and western directions. The monitoring records seasonal and daily fluctuations in traffic consumption. For instance, the largest increase in traffic consumption is recorded in the evening. The peak of internet user activity occurs between 10:00 PM and 1:00 AM. Among the priorities are connections to major internet resources such as Google, VKontakte, Mail.ru, and others.
Monitoring the load of the external backbone channel is part of a set of organisational and technical measures carried out by Beltelecom specialists to continuously improve service quality and the reliability of the company's clients' access to the World Wide Web, ensuring stable access speeds and reliable internet connectivity.
