In Lepel district alone, over 28 burglaries were committed in 2020, almost half of which were from citizens' dwellings. One of the main reasons is open windows and doors; another significant reason remains the old habit of leaving keys under the doormat or in mailboxes.
All that can be wished for such homeowners is to be more attentive. However, in other cases, burglars show ingenuity. Sometimes they even demonstrate acrobatic skills, for example, by entering apartments on upper floors using a rope lowered from the roof. In general, we will provide some recommendations from law enforcement officers for those who protect their property.
On the first, second, and top floors, it is advisable to install window grilles, even on plastic windows.
Storing valuables and money in display cabinets or boxes is not recommended – burglars check these first. When leaving for an extended period, it is better to send your jewellery to "visit" relatives. Mobile phones, laptops, video cameras, and other valuables are preferably stored separately from their documents – this will make it more difficult for criminals to resell them and will simultaneously help law enforcement officers track them down.
It is worth considering purchasing a steel door; it makes sense to install a flashing LED nearby. You can "deceive" burglars in other ways: leave the radio on, purchase a device that periodically turns on the light, simulates conversation, or a dog's bark. An excellent method is an autonomous alarm system. The best option is to install an alarm system or video surveillance system connected to a security control panel.
If a burglar has entered your home, call the police immediately and do not touch anything until law enforcement officers arrive. If you catch an intruder in your dwelling, slam the door and lock it. Be vigilant!
