According to Belhydromet, blizzards are forecast for some districts of the country on the upcoming evening and night, with wind gusts of 15-18 m/s persisting in the western half. On Monday morning and afternoon, icy conditions are expected on some sections of roads. Snow and wet snow will fall over most of the territory. Air temperature will fluctuate between sub-zero and positive values.
Unstable weather may complicate the road situation. The State Automobile Inspectorate reminds of the basic rules for safe travel in conditions of snowfall and strong winds:- Before setting off, clear your vehicle of snow, especially windows, mirrors, and external lighting devices. Fill the washer fluid reservoir with antifreeze, check the wipers, window and mirror defrosters, and cabin heating system for proper operation;
- Choose a safe speed, maintain a safe distance and lateral interval. Consider that the road surface condition may change rapidly on different sections of the route;
- Plan your travel time with a buffer for unforeseen situations to avoid rushing, thereby creating nervousness and danger for traffic;
- Acceleration, braking, and steering movements should be as smooth as possible to avoid skidding;
- Avoid rash and sudden maneuvers, especially overtaking and passing.
Operating a vehicle not equipped with winter tires or with tread wear exceeding the maximum permissible limit is strictly prohibited!
All occupants of the cabin must be fastened with seat belts, and children must be transported only in child restraint systems installed according to the instructions!
It is vital for pedestrians in conditions of poor visibility to indicate their presence on the road with high-visibility clothing, and in the dark, with reflective elements securely attached so that drivers can see you! Stay away from the roadway, including while waiting to cross, and do not obstruct your view with a hood.
