As part of the "Person with a White Cane" month, the Lepel District branch of the Belarusian Association of the Visually Impaired (BelTIZ) in conjunction with the staff of the Social Rehabilitation and Habilitation of Persons with Disabilities Department of the Territorial Centre for Social Services of Lepel District and the traffic police department of the Lepel District Department of Internal Affairs held an event titled "Attention! Visually Impaired Pedestrian."
The event participants discussed measures for the prevention of road traffic accidents involving pedestrian collisions, as well as other traffic-related issues faced by visually impaired individuals.
Law enforcement officers also patrolled pedestrian crossings and intersections – areas where people with disabilities most frequently cross the road. They distributed leaflets to drivers and reminded them of the importance of adhering to traffic regulations. All drivers yielded to pedestrians carrying white canes.
The event aims to draw public and individual attention to the challenges faced by visually impaired individuals.
