Attention: orange hazard level

On Monday, an orange level of danger has been declared in most regions of the country due to icy conditions. Light precipitation (snow, sleet, rain) is expected in many areas.

Drivers are permitted to operate vehicles only if equipped with winter tyres with a tread depth of at least 4 mm. In conditions of rain and snow, or icy roads, reduce your speed and increase your following distance. To avoid losing control of the vehicle, all steering and pedal movements should be smooth.

It should be remembered that the road surface condition may change abruptly along the route. Exercise particular caution when passing pedestrian crossings, bridges, overpasses, road curves, steep ascents and descents, and open, windswept areas. Switch on your low beam headlights to be more visible to other road users.

All occupants of the vehicle must wear seat belts, and children must be transported in appropriate child restraint systems.

Pedestrians should be aware that a vehicle cannot stop instantly, especially on slippery surfaces. It is necessary to cross the road only at designated crossings and only after ensuring that all vehicles have time to stop. In icy conditions, try to walk away from the carriageway and wait for a crossing at least one metre from it.

In bad weather, wear high-visibility clothing and, in the dark, use reflective elements to make yourself visible, especially when walking on the shoulder or the edge of the carriageway. Do not use headphones so that you can hear approaching transport.

In adverse weather conditions, traffic police patrols are operating with blue flashing beacons to attract drivers' attention and ensure safe traffic conditions. Round-the-clock monitoring of the carriageway condition is organised to ensure its timely cleaning and treatment by the relevant services.
