Prosecutors' attention to citizens' appeals helped to defend the rights of a minor resident of Vitebsk, Anton Zykov, senior assistant prosecutor of the Zheleznodorozhny district of Vitebsk, told a BELTA correspondent. In March 2011, in a large store of one of the regional food retail chains, an automatic door opening mechanism fell on a girl born in 2004, who was in the store with her mother. According to doctors, the girl sustained a closed head injury with a concussion and a bruise of the right parietal region, which led to the development of emotional disorder with neurotic tics. The severity of the injuries sustained has not yet been definitively established, as the child is still undergoing treatment. The store employees completely denied their guilt in the incident. The management of the retail chain took a similar position, not wishing to help the injured girl in any way. This forced the mother to turn to law enforcement agencies. The police refused to initiate criminal proceedings against the Vitebsk resident for causing bodily harm to the child. Then the woman came to a meeting with prosecutors. Upon detailed examination of the applicant's appeal, a decision was made to defend the rights and legitimate interests of the injured girl. The Zheleznodorozhny District Prosecutor's Office of Vitebsk filed a lawsuit with the court. It is noteworthy that the management of the retail chain refused to reimburse the funds spent on the girl's treatment out of court, motivating this by the fact that the store employees were not involved in the incident. During the court hearing, strong arguments and evidence to the contrary were presented, including a video recording from the store. As a result, the management of the retail chain compensated for the damage in the amount of Br1.6 million. -0-
