According to Belhydromet, heavy rains and thunderstorms are expected today in some parts of the country and in Minsk.
During adverse weather conditions, it is necessary to choose a safe speed, avoid reckless manoeuvres, and refrain from sudden steering, acceleration, and braking. If visibility deteriorates, switch on your low beam headlights, maintain a safe distance, and side clearance.During rain, the coefficient of friction between the wheels and the road significantly decreases, which can lead to an increased braking distance and loss of control. To avoid aquaplaning, drive through puddles at the minimum possible constant speed, keeping the steering wheel straight.
If it is impossible to continue driving due to the intensity of precipitation, stop off the roadway with hazard lights and exterior lights switched on, and wait out the downpour. Do not park under trees, near structures with high windage, or insecurely fastened objects.
Drivers and passengers must wear seat belts, and children under 12 years of age must be transported in special restraint systems.
Pedestrians should only begin crossing the road after ensuring that drivers have noticed and are yielding to them. Do not obstruct your view with an umbrella or hood, and refrain from riding bicycles and personal mobility devices. During darkness, when moving along the roadway, mark yourself with retroreflective elements.
