On December 15, Vitebsk, /Diana Kurilo - BELTA/. Attempts to illegally move excisable goods across the Belarusian-Latvian border continue to occur, stated Denis Glebko, Head of the Press Service of the Polotsk Border Guard Detachment, in an interview with a BELTA correspondent.
At the "Bigosovo" border crossing point (Verkhnedvinsk district) on the night of December 14, in the "Polotsk – Daugavpils" train, servicemen of the Polotsk Border Guard Detachment discovered 121 boxes (60.5 thousand packs) of "Premier" cigarettes with Belarusian excise stamps in two gondola cars under coal. The border guards handed over the illegally transported cargo to customs. According to preliminary estimates, its value is estimated at Br160.3 million.
On the same night, in the Verkhnedvinsk district, 300 meters from the border line, a border patrol detained three unknown individuals without documents. During the investigation, it was found out that they were citizens of Latvia who were attempting to move six boxes of Belarusian-made cigarettes across the border. Proceedings are being carried out with the detainees. The estimated value of the seized cigarettes is being clarified.
Since the beginning of the year, servicemen of the Polotsk Border Guard Detachment have recorded over a hundred cases of cigarette seizures, with more than 1.3 million packs of cigarettes seized for a total value exceeding Br2.9 billion. -0-
