Lepel hosted its first Christmas Volleyball Tournament for women's and men's teams from educational institutions, sponsored by the parish of the Transfiguration of the Lord Church. For two days, young men and women competed for the title of best volleyball players.
The tournament began with a formation and a welcoming speech by the rector of the Transfiguration of the Lord Church, priest Sergiy Leshkevich.
Seven girls' teams and eight boys' teams participated in the competition. The main requirement was that participants be no older than 1996. The boys and girls played simultaneously on two courts in the sports complex.
The tournament was opened by students from Secondary School No. 1 and Pyshnya Kindergarten-Secondary School, as well as students from Borovaya Secondary School and Secondary School No. 3. Following the first day, the students from Stai became the leaders in the girls' subgroup A. They defeated Borovaya Secondary School, I. M. Erashov Gymnasium, and Secondary School No. 3 with the same score – 2:0. In subgroup B, the girls from Pyshnya took first place, leaving behind the athletes from Secondary School No. 1, Zaslonovo Secondary School, and the State Vocational Lyceum. The games on the following day did not significantly alter the established picture. In the battle for third place, the lyceum students defeated the students from Borovaya Secondary School. However, the final saw long-standing rivals – Pyshnya and Stai.
For three consecutive years in the district spartakiad among rural schools, these very teams had met in the final games. The students from Stai had been victorious twice.
While the girls were competing for first place, the boys were already receiving their awards. The athletes from the lyceum became the first winners of the tournament. The students from Zaslonovo were defeated by a score of 0:2. The volleyball players from Borovaya won against the gymnasium students with the same score, securing third place.
Each team received sweet prizes – cakes, and the athletes who took the top three places also received volleyballs. Now they can train with new sports equipment.
Among the girls' teams, the intense competition continued. A new victory… 2:0 – again in favour of the Pyshnya students. However, the volleyball players from Stai did not lose without a fight: the final score was 2:1.
The best female volleyball players have been determined. Cakes and balls were presented to the teams that placed in the top three. However, other athletes also received sweet prizes.
