– Restoration work is underway at memorial complex No. 4407 in Zaronovo, where 10.5 thousand Red Army soldiers are buried. It is necessary to inscribe the surnames of all those buried here onto the memorial plaques, as well as the additional names that have been identified recently, – noted Vladimir Terentiev. – Part of the funds earned from the regional subbotnik, amounting to about 62 thousand rubles, has been allocated for repairs.
Over the current year, about 460 people have been reburied in the region, including 266 civilians. In addition, 53 memorial complexes in Rossony and Dokshytsy districts have been registered.
– It should be noted that over 5,200 surnames have been inscribed on memorial plaques throughout the region over the year. In total, there are 1,533 military burial sites in the Vitebsk region, where 405 thousand Red Army soldiers are buried, of whom only 210 thousand have known names, – said Vladimir Vladimirovich.
As Vladimir Terentiev emphasized, work is underway to assign the names of Heroes of the Soviet Union to educational institutions. For example, recently, permission was obtained from the relatives of Ivan Chernyakhovsky, commander of the 3rd Belorussian Front and twice Hero of the Soviet Union, to name one of the schools in Dubrovno District after him.
