1 August, Vitebsk /Olga Bogacheva - BELTA/. Eight waste disposal sites will be constructed in the Vitebsk region by 2016, as reported to BELTA by the Vitebsk Regional Committee for Natural Resources and Environmental Protection. The disposal sites will be built during the current five-year period in accordance with the "Clean City" programme of the Regional Programme for Innovative and Investment Development of the Vitebsk Region for 2011-2015 in Vitebsk, Glubokoye, Bogushevsk of Senno District, Lepel, Chashniki, Orsha, Novopolotsk and Postavy. In the first five settlements, these projects are planned to be implemented already this year, and in the remaining ones – within the next three years. Br8.6 billion has been allocated from the regional budget for environmental protection for these purposes. In addition, the construction of a similar facility is planned in Shumilino in 2015. In the first half of this year, 60.5 thousand tonnes of secondary material resources (SMR) were extracted in the Vitebsk region. The targets of the State Programme for the Collection (Procurement) and Processing of Secondary Raw Materials in the Republic of Belarus for 2009-2015 have been met for the procurement of construction waste, asphalt concrete and textiles. The targets for four types of SMR have not been met: 31.7% of the target for waste paper was procured, 10.9% for cullet, 16.2% for tyres, and 28.8% for plastics. The issue of collecting bulky waste from the public has also not been properly resolved. In 2011, 1983.6 thousand cubic metres of municipal waste was generated in the region, of which 1502.3 thousand cubic metres, or 76.8%, was municipal waste from the public. There are 26 solid municipal waste (SMW) landfills and 493 mini-landfills in the region for their disposal. All SMW landfills are registered in the register of disposal sites and have permits from the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Protection for waste disposal. The region also has 18 sorting stations (re-sorting points), and almost 17 thousand containers have been installed for waste collection, of which 4.2 thousand are intended for separate collection.
