Machinery is being extensively tested on farms, and pastures are being mown, with the green mass being used for haymaking. Procurement of highly nutritious fodder in stretch film has also commenced, and the pace of haylage and silage procurement is picking up. "The machinery is, in principle, ready and supplied with fuel, the grass stand is normal, so there is confidence that we will cope with the task," stated Boris Efremov.
In total, this season the Vitebsk region is to procure about 2 million tonnes of haylage and 2 million tonnes of silage. The first grass mowing is planned to be carried out on an area of 210 thousand hectares, yielding about 360 thousand tonnes of feed units.
In addition, agricultural producers in the northern region continue to sow annual grasses (millet, sorghum), which is planned to be completed in the second ten-day period of June. As these are good predecessors for winter crops, it is planned to use this land for winter sowing subsequently, explained Boris Efremov. By the end of the current week, several districts are expected to finish sowing corn, making up for delays caused by weather conditions.
