The third Sunday in November is annually observed as the World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims. On this day, millions of people killed and injured in road traffic accidents are remembered.
Since the beginning of the year, 66 people (including 4 children) have died in 307 accidents on the roads of the Vitebsk region, 320 have been registered as injured, and 30 people were intoxicated.
On November 17, traffic police officers of the region will conduct a preventive campaign to remind people of the scale of mortality and disability resulting from accidents.
Excessive self-confidence and reliance on luck are qualities of drivers that can lead to a tragic outcome of a journey. Alcohol is a treacherous companion for all road users. Those who get behind the wheel of a bicycle while intoxicated may also get behind the wheel of a car in the same condition. And this is a potential killer on the road. Pedestrians put themselves in danger by deciding to cross the road wherever they please. But even those who cross at a pedestrian crossing sometimes forget to look around or deliberately proceed on a red light. The result is a ruined life for both the driver and the victim under the wheels of the car.
The World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims is an occasion to reflect on road safety.
