February 25, Lepel /Own correspondent/. "Fierce whirlwinds" swept over Lepel. Comprehensive civil defence and emergency response exercises have commenced. Initially, a storm warning was issued. As a result of heavy snowfall, there were widespread power line breakages and fallen trees in forest areas. An accident occurred on an icy road involving a scheduled bus. Many injured individuals are being brought to the hospital, and there are fatalities. An explosion occurred at a bakery, causing the collapse of reinforced concrete structures, trapping people under the rubble who urgently require assistance and rescue. Firefighters and rescuers are rushing to the scene, unrolling hoses to extinguish fires, and preparing special equipment to free the victims.

Suddenly, a new alarm, even more alarming, sounded: an outbreak of anthrax, a deadly infectious disease with an almost 100% mortality rate, was detected in the district. The outbreak was identified at a farm. Before hospitalization, affected individuals had visited several public places, including the local shop. Police officers are joining medical and veterinary personnel to establish a quarantine zone around the affected areas. Medical and preventive measures are being implemented.

Firefighters, police, and medical institutions have been placed on high alert. A review of civil defence resources and equipment, along with personnel briefings, is being conducted in all organisations and enterprises in the town and district.

However, there is no cause for concern. These and other activities are elements and stages of large-scale comprehensive civil defence and emergency response exercises being held in the district.
