A school waltz, launching sailboats with wishes down the Dvina River, and a solemn promise to return to their native lands – the district festival "Under the Sails of Dreams" will bring together school graduates from Polotsk District today, as reported to BelTA correspondent by the District Centre for Children and Youth.
The last bell will ring for 490 eleventh-graders and 926 ninth-graders of the district's schools. The festival dedicated to this event promises to be bright and colourful. Graduates, led by a group of drummers, will march along Francysk Skaryna Avenue through a human corridor of over four hundred people to the "Spartak" stadium. Representatives of the Polotsk District Executive Committee, the Polotsk Diocese, veterans of the Great Patriotic War, and, of course, relatives, friends, and guests will greet the participants of the procession.
Young men and women will solemnly pledge to return to their native places as qualified specialists to contribute to the development of their beloved region with their talent and labour. A touching moment will be the graduates' address expressing gratitude to the veterans and the laying of a wreath of flowers at the monument "Liberators of Polotsk". Congratulations from junior pupils and class teachers, the performance of the school waltz, and the launching of sailboats with wishes down the Dvina from the pier will remain vivid and bright memories for them.
In total, the last bell in the schools of Vitebsk Region, marking the end of the 2018/2019 academic year, will ring for 15,749 children. At the festive assemblies, teachers will solemnly award diplomas for secondary education to 6,055 girls and boys. A corresponding document for basic education will be received by 9,694 ninth-graders. The honour of hosting the republican "Last Bell" ceremony has been entrusted to Orsha this year.
