This was stated by the President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko, speaking on June 29 at the Republican Ball of Higher Education Graduates. The event was attended by 270 best graduates of Belarusian universities, BELTA was informed by the press service of the Belarusian leader.
The head of state emphasized that young people have completed an important stage in their lives, have approached a new milestone, beyond which a completely different, adult life begins. Now, every day, more and more responsibility will be placed on them - for choosing their place in life, for their loved ones, family, and, finally, for our country. Alexander Lukashenko wished that young people would always be up to the mark and justify this trust.
The head of state noted that he wants to see young people as true patriots, sincerely loving Belarus. At the same time, Alexander Lukashenko stressed that "we have something to be proud of - Belarus's rich history and culture, its current achievements and grandiose plans."
He also said that gaining independence marked the birth of a new, sovereign Belarus, possessing strategic advantages that must be fully realized. "Today, we are a young state with colossal prospects ahead, and all of them are connected with youth," the President emphasized.
"Belarus is developing, despite crises and external threats," Alexander Lukashenko stated. "So those who bet on emigration or opposition to their country and their people will sooner or later lose, because the best way to become a citizen of a rich and prosperous state is to create it yourself."
"Now we need to fully use the chance given by fate. Do not retreat from temporary difficulties, act decisively and purposefully, be united and cohesive in any situation," the President said.
"If you want our state to be respected all over the world, then dedicate yourselves fully to increasing its well-being and spiritual greatness. You are starting your adult life in an extraordinary time of economic and technological leap, unprecedented in the modern history of our country," Alexander Lukashenko emphasized.
He noted that it is young people who should become the catalyst for business and creative activity in any endeavor, demonstrating initiative, creative thinking, and engagement. "Do not be afraid to defend your point of view and fight for the implementation of your own ideas, do not trade your talent for trifles, and do not betray your dream," said Alexander Lukashenko, addressing university graduates.
The President emphasized that nowadays more and more young people are taking up leadership positions in government. Youth parliaments are being established to nurture future leaders. Youth public associations, along with trade union, veteran, and women's organizations, form the basis of our civil society. They are increasingly becoming the driving force behind the development of breakthrough areas in science, information technology, and innovative production, and are opening up new horizons in contemporary culture.
To create conditions for the implementation of youth projects, special funds of the Head of State have been operating in the country for over 15 years, and hundreds of presidential scholarships are awarded annually to the best students, postgraduate students, young scientists, and cultural figures. The High Technologies Park has been established, and competitions are held every year, opening the path to great art for young artists.
According to the President, "the state makes a strategic calculation that our policy, multiplied by the energy and enthusiasm of youth, will elevate the country to such a historical height that our ancestors could only dream of."
Alexander Lukashenko noted that all roads are open to the young, and the state is ready to support them. "But do not forget – in any endeavor, you must first and foremost rely on your own strength, create your own reputation, and earn authority," stressed the Head of State. He wished that the guiding star for the graduates would be a high goal – a strong, free, and prosperous Belarus.
The President thanked the rectors and educators of higher education institutions for their work in nurturing youth. "The mission of a teacher is one of the most complex and responsible. After all, it is they who shape characters and will, and teach young people to wield the pen with which they will later write glorious pages in the annals of their country," said Alexander Lukashenko.He noted that the state expects primarily an active civic stance from the teaching staff, as an absolutely natural, organic state for every higher education employee, modern lectures that correspond to the spirit of the times and students' needs, a close connection between pedagogical and research work with practice, and the formation of unique scientific directions in each university. "We need teachers who will become a true life example for students. This should be the hallmark of Belarusian higher education," the head of state emphasized.
Alexander Lukashenko presented letters of gratitude from the President of the Republic of Belarus and valuable gifts to the ten best graduates.
Then, a student celebration and a reception on behalf of the head of state were held in honor of the graduates of Belarusian higher education institutions. -0-
