High speed is one of the main advantages of a modern car. However, as speed increases, the stopping distance of the car also increases, leading to a greater risk of road traffic accidents with severe consequences. It is undeniable that at lower speeds, it is easier to ensure safety. However, most accidents occur not because of high speeds, but because of their incompatibility with road conditions, the traffic situation, and the individual characteristics of the driver. With increasing speed, a driver's reaction time does not improve. The higher the speed, the less time the driver has to correct potential mistakes and avoid serious consequences. A collision at 100 km/h offers almost no chance of survival: it is equivalent to falling from a 12-story building.
Consequently, exceeding the speed limit is one of the most serious traffic violations. Unfortunately, not all drivers yet understand the real danger posed by exceeding the established speed limit. Hundreds upon hundreds of people become victims of reckless drivers every year, and dozens of them die. Surely, this is too terrible a price to pay for a few saved seconds.
The State Automobile Inspectorate is not sitting idly by. Work on preventing speeding is carried out constantly. In the Lepel district alone, since the beginning of the current year, 610 drivers have been brought to administrative responsibility for violating speed limits. A tangible loss of funds and the inevitability of punishment are the most effective measures to prevent drivers from violating speed limits. According to Art. 18.13 of the Code of the Republic of Belarus "On Administrative Offences", for exceeding the established speed limit by drivers of vehicles: up to 20 km/h - a warning or a fine of up to 1 basic unit, from 20 to 30 km/h, a fine of 1 to 3 basic units is provided. If the speed is exceeded by more than 30 km/h, the fine will be from 3 to 10 basic units. When exceeding the speed limit by more than 20 km/h repeatedly within one year after the imposition of an administrative penalty for the same violations, a fine of 5 to 15 basic units or deprivation of the right to drive for up to 1 year is provided.
However, for some drivers, these measures only affect them through fear, without touching the deeper foundations of human consciousness, its morality. Without mincing words, it can be said that the majority of drivers perceive the actions of the State Automobile Inspectorate officer, who penalises them for speeding, with the deepest regret. But, in any case, all this is done for the good, for the sake of life and health. At the same time, it must be acknowledged that some motorists behave cautiously only in places where their violations can be noticed by traffic police officers. In their absence, they consciously commit violations. A driver's transport discipline is ensured by the consistent fulfilment of the requirements of the Traffic Regulations, the demonstration of ethics and respect for other road users - drivers, pedestrians, passengers.
Dear drivers! Be prudent in your choice of speed!
