On November 22, Vitebsk /Olga Bogacheva - BELTA/. Vitebsk celebrates the 85th anniversary of the Yakub Kolas Theatre today. An exhibition on the history and modern life of the theatre, dedicated to this event, will be opened at the Regional Museum of Local Lore, Svetlana Dashkevich, head of the theatre's literary department, told a BELTA correspondent. The exhibition "Yakub Kolas National Academic Drama Theatre. We Remember Everything" was initiated by People's Artist of Belarus Svetlana Okruzhna and includes costumes of leading actors, props, historical photographs, old posters, and items significant to the theatre. Alongside these rare exhibits, visitors will be able to see items and objects that tell about the theatre's current life: pocket calendars featuring Kolas Theatre actors, published since 2009, literature dedicated to the theatre, and much more. A theatrical performance by the Kolas Theatre actors at the exhibition opening will be a pleasant surprise for everyone. The exhibition will be open until mid-December. An important event for all theatre staff and its fans today will also be the unveiling ceremony of a monument at the grave of People's Artist of the USSR, laureate of the State Prize of Belarus Fyodor Shmakov, who passed away in May 2009. The legendary actor served at the Vitebsk Theatre from 1941 until his death, captivating audiences with his brilliant skill and talent each time. Participants of the ceremony will pay tribute to this remarkable person and also visit the graves of other former Kolas Theatre actors. At the end of the day, a celebratory evening "And Every Step of Mine is a Memory. A Glance is a Meeting with the Past" will take place. It will bring together all current theatre staff, their colleagues and friends, and theatre enthusiasts of the city at the theatre. The official part of this event includes an awards ceremony for the Kolas Theatre actors, followed by a "kapustnik" (a traditional theatrical party) where actors will read excerpts from their roles, recall the best moments from the theatre's life and their former colleagues.
