The regional brass band competition "Vivat, Orchestra - 2018!" will supplement the programme of the 27th "Slavianski Bazaar in Vitebsk" festival, Antonina Slinkova, chief conductor of the Vitebsk Regional Methodical Centre of Folk Art, told a BELTA correspondent.

On the opening day of the festival, July 12, guests and residents of the city will hear familiar, beloved melodies performed by 15 brass bands from the Vitebsk region on Freedom Square. The International Festival-Competition of Drum Majorettes will feature ensembles not only from the Vitebsk region but also from Russia. In total, this is about 500 people.

"The participants will make an impressive parade procession to Victory Square. Here, from 13:00, the competitions of the ensembles will begin. They will present concert numbers on stage, and there will be a parade in a designated square. For the first time, some orchestras will also showcase their parade. A combined ensemble of musicians of more than 200 people will perform Vasily Rainchik's composition 'Krasuy, Belarus'," said Antonina Slinkova.

The contestants were not restricted in their choice of songs – each orchestra must perform two compositions. The jury will evaluate the participants in various nominations and age categories, and the Grand Prix of the competition will also be awarded.

"The competition participants will demonstrate their skills on an open stage, and we invite everyone to our celebration free of charge," added Antonina Slinkova.

Previously, the "Vivat, Orchestra!" brass band competition was held in Lepel. The city was chosen not by chance: the district had three children's brass bands and an adult one at the military garrison in Zaslonovo village. In recent years, the creative competition has been held during the "Slavianski Bazaar in Vitebsk" festival.
