Farms in the Vitebsk region are exceeding the target for fodder harvesting by almost 4%, the Agriculture and Food Committee of the Regional Executive Committee informed a BELTA correspondent. According to data as of 17 October, a total of over 1.3 million tonnes of fodder units of herbaceous fodder have been harvested in the region, which is 103.6% of the target. Fodder provision per conventional head of cattle is about 28.43 centners of fodder units, which is 16% higher than the corresponding figure for 2010 and is the best result for at least the last five years. This result was achieved, in part, due to a good corn harvest. As of 17 October, fodder corn has been harvested from an area of over 97.7 thousand hectares, which is 93.6% of the plan. The gross yield of green mass exceeds 3.3 million tonnes. The average yield of this crop is almost 340 centners per hectare, which is 33.5% higher than the figure for 2010. In addition, ten districts continue to harvest corn for grain, with over 3.6 thousand tonnes threshed at an average yield of 75.3 centners per hectare. Within the next three days, it is planned to fully complete work in the potato fields in the region. A total of 96.6% of potato areas have been harvested, with work continuing in Vitebsk (83.2% of areas harvested), Gorodok (93.7%), and Shumilino (89.2%) districts. Over 127.2 thousand tonnes of potatoes have been dug up at an average yield of almost 204 centners per hectare. -0-
