Farms in the Vitebsk region have begun harvesting maize, the Agriculture and Food Committee of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee informed a BELTA correspondent. As of 30 August, 1.7 thousand hectares, or 1.8% of the cultivated area, have been harvested in the region. All districts, except Beshenkovichi, Glubokoe, Dubrovno, Lepel, Postavy, Senno, and Sharkovshchina, have started harvesting maize. In Gorodok, Liozno, and Tolochin districts, the first hectares were harvested on 29 August. The most active maize harvesting is underway in Dokshitsy (9.2% of the cultivated area harvested), Braslav (7.5%), and Rossony (6.1%) districts. The gross yield of green mass amounted to 44 thousand tonnes with an average yield of 259.6 centners per hectare. The highest yields are recorded in Verkhnedvinsk (432.1 centners per hectare), Ushachi (355.6 centners per hectare), and Dokshitsy (333.8 centners per hectare) districts. The harvesting of grain and leguminous crops is nearing completion in the region. Currently, 83.8% of the cultivated area, or 409.5 thousand hectares, has been harvested. 1.246 million tonnes of grain have been threshed. The average yield has decreased to 30.4 centners per hectare. Buckwheat harvesting is also underway. 429 tonnes of this crop have already been threshed. A total of 800 tonnes are planned to be supplied under the state order. -0-
