Farms in the Vitebsk region have harvested almost 50% of the second cut grass areas.

Farms in the Vitebsk region have come close to the 50 percent mark in harvesting the second cut of grass, the Committee for Agriculture and Food of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee informed a BELTA correspondent. As of August 2, 62.4 thousand hectares of grassland have been mown in the region, which is 48% of the total area. To date, 159.9 thousand tons of hay have been harvested, including almost 121 thousand tons for communal livestock, 2.2 million tons of silage, and 76.7 thousand tons of silage. Per conventional head of cattle, 15.49 centners of feed units have been accounted for, which slightly exceeds the level of the fodder base harvested by the same date in 2011. Grass harvesting will continue in the region throughout August, while the main efforts of the rural workers are currently focused on harvesting grain and leguminous crops. Tomorrow promises to be particularly productive for them. For instance, grain yield may exceed the 500 thousand ton mark. As of August 2, it stood at 438.9 thousand tons with a daily increase of 55-60 thousand tons. Also, on August 3, the Vitebsk region is expected to see the first thousand-ton crew among young and adult combine operators. The main contenders for this title are working in the Orsha, Chashniki, and Postavy districts.
