20 May, Vitebsk /Alena Tikhonova - BELTA/. Farms in the Vitebsk region will complete the sowing of spring crops within the next 2-3 days, the Committee for Agriculture and Food of the Regional Executive Committee informed a BELTA correspondent.
Spring sowing has already been carried out on an area of 354 thousand hectares, which is 81% of the plan. Sowing of grain, cruciferous crops, and flax has been fully completed. All efforts have been redirected to the fields allocated for corn. Here, work has been completed on only half of the areas.
The region is completing the planting of potatoes and vegetables. 5 thousand hectares and 1 thousand 800 hectares have been allocated for these crops, respectively.
It is highly probable that next week the agricultural enterprises of the region will begin fodder harvesting. The region's farmers have timely re-sown perennial grasses. The moist and warm weather, which has been observed in the region recently, has accelerated the growth of green mass.
"Organisational and technological issues regarding fodder harvesting will be discussed at a regional seminar, which will take place on 28 May. We plan to hold the event in the Horadok District. The seminar will focus on the quality of fodder, adherence to harvesting deadlines, and harvesting technology," the Regional Committee for Agriculture and Food informed. -0-
