The XXV Minsk International Book Fair will open today at the administrative complex located at 14 Pobediteley Avenue in the Belarusian capital, BELTA reports.
The exhibition will run from February 28 to March 4. The main theme of the XXV Minsk International Book Fair is "Belarus – Europe's Cultural Platform".
The guest of honour at the XXV Minsk International Book Fair is Serbia. The central exhibitor is Kazakhstan. In previous years, guests of honour at the exhibition included Russia, Ukraine, Israel, Kazakhstan, France, Germany, Venezuela, China, Armenia, and the United Kingdom.
The programme for the guest of honour includes an exhibition by the National Library of Serbia titled "Serbian Literature in World War I". There will be creative meetings with the renowned Serbian prose writer Goran Petrović, and Dajana Lazarević, the translator into Serbian of Maksim Bahdanovich's collection "Vianok". A Serbian-Belarusian literary meeting, "Creative and Scientific Tandem: Ivan Čarota and Dragan Lakićević", will also take place.
Presentations will be organised for a collection of contemporary Serbian poetry published in Belarus, Nevena Vitošević-Čeklić's book "Chyrvonyya kvetki Kosava polya", the book "Belarusians about Serbia and Yugoslavia", a Russian translation of the works of St. Sava of Serbia, "Studenica Typikon" and "The Life of St. Simeon", and a selection of Belarusian poetry in the Serbian journal "Povelja" and Serbian editions of the journals "Maladość", "Polymia", "Nioman", and the newspaper "Litaratura i mastatstva". An evening dedicated to Serbian literature will be held at the House of Friendship.
A broad participation of publishers from Russia (exhibitions "Publishing Programmes of the Government of Moscow" and "Saint Petersburg International Book Salon"), Germany, the United Kingdom, the USA, and the People's Republic of China is also expected at the exhibition.
A significant event of the exhibition will be the presentation of the "Encyclopedia of China" in Belarusian. The project was implemented in accordance with the memorandum of cooperation between the Ministry of Information of Belarus and the General Administration of Press and Publication, Radio, Film and Television of the PRC.
The Committee for Press and Mass Media Relations of the Government of Saint Petersburg will present a musical and literary evening in Minsk dedicated to the 315th anniversary of the founding of the city on the Neva River and joint Russian-Belarusian book projects.
During the exhibition, the IV International Symposium of Writers "The Writer and Time" will be held. Writers from over 20 countries have confirmed their participation in the symposium.
The exhibition will feature an award ceremony for the winners of the "Pershatsvet" competition for young writers. The creativity of young authors will also be the focus of a presentation of the collection "Pershatsvet," published based on the results of the competition, as well as the book by young author Stanislava Umets "Heart of Sakura: Fantasy," which launched the new series "Time XXI" by the publishing house "Mastatskaya Lіtaratura."
Numerous meetings with authors, publishers, and artists, new book presentations, round tables, and autograph sessions will be organized at the national stand of Belarus during the exhibition. The award ceremony for the winners of the 57th National Competition "The Art of the Book" will also take place here.
The XXV Minsk International Book Fair will be organized by Mininform, Minsk City Executive Committee, Belkniga OJSC, and Makbel PC LLC. Admission is free.
