The Vitebsk Oblast admission committees have informed a BELTA correspondent about the specialties that were in particularly high demand among applicants entering higher education institutions in the Vitebsk region this year.
The admission campaign to higher education institutions is still ongoing, but some of the future students have already secured places funded by the state. At the P.M. Masherov Vitebsk State University, 743 individuals were enrolled for free education. This year, Vitebsk State University saw unprecedented demand for the "International Law" specialty, with a competition of 11.5 applicants per place. For "Jurisprudence" at the same Faculty of Law, the competition was almost half as low, at 5.8 applicants per place. "This year, all places allocated for targeted training students have been filled – 199 applicants were admitted under targeted training agreements," noted Olga Lyubchenko, the responsible secretary of the university's admission committee.
This year, applicants have shown increased interest in engineering specialties, and representatives of higher technical education believe that early career guidance and the work of specialised classes have yielded results. Ekaterina Goncharova, the responsible secretary of the admission committee at the Vitebsk State Technological University, shared that the number of individuals wishing to pursue engineering specialties has increased significantly compared to previous years. "Our university traditionally sees high demand for the Faculty of Design, with an overall competition of about 4 applicants per place. We have noticed that applicants were also interested in the "Engineering Economics" specialty, for which recruitment resumed this year, with a competition of 1.6 applicants per place," she said.
The "Design" specialty was also popular this year at the Euphrosyne of Polotsk Polotsk State University. "We have enrolled 604 students for full-time state-funded education. The "Design of Object-Spatial Environment" specialty has traditionally been in high demand among applicants to our university, with a competition of approximately 4.75 applicants per place. The interest of school leavers in IT specialties remains strong, and this year we also observed demand for a new specialty – "Modern Foreign Languages," noted Pavel Soldatenko, the responsible secretary of the PSU admission committee.
This year, the Vitebsk State Order of Peoples' Friendship Medical University saw a surge of applicants for its Paediatric Faculty. "We have met all the planned admission targets for state-funded study. Across the university, the competition was over 2 applicants per place, and for the Paediatric Faculty, it was 5.1 applicants per place," shared Elena Gusakova, the responsible secretary of the VSMU admissions committee.
Admissions for fee-paying study at the region's higher education institutions will continue until August 1.
