On December 17, Vitebsk / Diana Kurilo - BELTA /. All monuments erected in honour of the soldiers of the Great Patriotic War in the Vitebsk region will be inspected, and each will be assigned a patron. This was instructed by the Chairman of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee, Alexander Kosinets, today during a joint meeting of the Presidium of the Vitebsk Regional Council of Deputies and the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee, a BELTA correspondent reports. Preliminarily, the draft regional budget for 2012 envisages the allocation of Br400 million for the restoration of monuments to fallen soldiers. However, according to veterans, this amount is insufficient. The Chairman of the Regional Executive Committee demanded an inspection of the monuments, their assignment to enterprises and organisations, the determination of the necessary scope of work, and their restoration. "The necessary funds can be earned through subbotniks, patrons should help," he added. The Governor also drew attention to the monuments and busts erected in honour of the soldiers of the Great Patriotic War on the territories of enterprises. Not all of them are in proper condition, and few people see them, so he proposed considering their relocation to the Alley of Heroes. There are over 1.2 thousand military burials in the region, including those of soldiers who died during the Patriotic War of 1812, the Civil War, the Great Patriotic War, and internationalist soldiers. -0-
