Over the past three days, 29 fires occurred in the Vitebsk region, resulting in five deaths, the Vitebsk Regional Department of the Ministry of Emergency Situations informed a BELTA correspondent. A tragic incident occurred on the evening of February 5 in the Dubrovno district. Here, a 52-year-old Group II invalid and his 90-year-old relative died in a fire. According to the preliminary version, the cause of the fire was a violation of the rules for operating stoves, heat-generating units, and devices. As the Ministry of Emergency Situations employees believe, the man tried to heat up the frozen water heating system in the house, which resulted in a boiler explosion. The deceased until recently was the elder of the village and had repeatedly participated in fire safety inspections of the housing stock in the settlement himself. Three more people died in the Tolochin, Vitebsk, and Sharkovshchina districts. As a result of fires over three days, 23 buildings and two vehicles were damaged, and two vehicles were destroyed. Since the beginning of the year, 188 fires have occurred in the region, resulting in 27 deaths, including 2 children. The Commission for Emergency Situations under the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee instructed the district and city executive committees to organize commissions in all districts of the region by February 8, including representatives of the commissions for juvenile affairs under the city/district executive committees, city/district departments for emergency situations, internal affairs, education, territorial centers for social security of the population, settlement and rural councils, energy supervision, gas services, sanitary services, and medical personnel. These commissions have been instructed to inspect households for their safety for children and single persons. By mid-February, brigades will be established in each district based on housing and communal services enterprises and agricultural enterprises to carry out repairs, installation, and maintenance of stoves in the housing stock, and to provide services to the population at an affordable price. -0-
