The results of the healthcare sector's performance were reviewed and the effectiveness of medical care provision to the population was discussed at the final meeting of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee's Healthcare Department.
Mikhail Vishnevetsky, Head of the Department, noted that all approaches and methods were aimed at ensuring the healthcare system's effectiveness both in the near future and for the long term. Approximately 71 million rubles were allocated last year to strengthen the material and technical base of the region's healthcare institutions, with 16 million used for equipment acquisition. In 2023, 12 polyclinics in the region joined the "Caring Polyclinic" project. In total, "caring" technologies are used in 26 outpatient clinics, including those in the city polyclinics of Vitebsk, Orsha, Polotsk, and Novopolotsk.
In 2024, the head of the regional department emphasized, the construction of the operating and resuscitation unit of the Regional Clinical Hospital will continue (this is a project extending into 2025), the reconstruction of the Regional Clinical Infectious Diseases Hospital will be completed, and the construction of a polyclinic in the Aeroport microdistrict in Polotsk will commence. Equipment upgrades are also planned: three magnetic resonance imaging scanners, angiographs, and computed tomography scanners will be installed, which will also bring high-quality medical care closer to the population. The ambulance fleet will be replenished with 44 new vehicles.
As of January 1, 2024, approximately 5,000 doctors and 13,500 mid-level healthcare professionals work in the region's healthcare organizations. In 2023, 179 interns and 203 young specialist doctors joined the workforce.
During the meeting, a number of healthcare workers from the region received awards from the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee, the sectoral Ministry, Vitebsk State Medical University, and the trade union.
