When rescuers arrived at the scene, open flames were observed coming from under the bonnet and into the cabin of the passenger car.
There were no casualties.
As a result of the fire, the interior and engine compartment of a 1997 Volkswagen Passat B-5 were partially destroyed.
Thus, since the beginning of the current year, three car fires have already been registered in the Lepel district. In this regard, the Ministry of Emergency Situations strongly recommends: monitor the condition of your vehicle, especially its fuel lines and wiring, and be sure to undergo timely technical inspection!
If your car suddenly catches fire while driving, you should stop immediately. Turn on the hazard lights, evacuate passengers. If a door is jammed, you need to break the window using any available tools. Those who will not be involved in extinguishing the fire (i.e., women and children) should move to a safe distance of 20-25 metres. Release the bonnet release lever. If smoke is coming from under the bonnet, open it carefully, preferably from the side. Do not open the bonnet wide: the influx of oxygen will cause the fire to intensify. If the bonnet is jammed due to heat, you can create a gap using a crowbar or improvised tools: sticks, planks, shovels. Direct the stream of the fire extinguisher at the source of the fire.
If the fire extinguisher fails to extinguish the fire, you must immediately stop attempting to put it out yourself and think about your own safety. Move to a safe distance yourself and take people with you. It is pointless to risk your life if it is not about saving people. It is important to remember that a car can explode. Call the rescue service yourself or ask someone to call it on 101 or 112!
