On January 5, at approximately 6 a.m., the rescue service received a report of a car fire on 1-ya Vostochnaya Street in the town of Lepel.
When rescuers arrived at the scene, open flames were observed coming from under the bonnet and into the cabin of the passenger car. There were no casualties.As a result of the fire, the interior and engine compartment of a 2002 Opel Omega were partially destroyed.
The cause of the fire is being established. The considered version of the cause of the fire is a violation of the rules for the operation of electrical networks and electrical equipment.

If your car suddenly catches fire while driving, you should stop immediately. Turn on the hazard lights, let passengers out; if the door is jammed, break the window with any available means. Those who will not participate in extinguishing the fire (these are women and children) should move to a safe distance of 20-25 meters. Release the bonnet release lever. If smoke is coming from under the bonnet, it should be opened carefully, preferably from the side. Do not open the bonnet wide: the influx of oxygen will cause the fire to intensify. If the bonnet is jammed due to temperature, a gap can be created using a crowbar or improvised means: a stick, a board, a shovel. Direct the stream of the fire extinguisher at the source of the fire.
If the fire extinguisher fails to cope with the fire, you must immediately stop attempting to extinguish it yourself and think about your own safety. Move away to a safe distance yourself and lead people away. It is pointless to risk your life if it is not about saving people. It is important to remember that a car can explode. Call the rescue service yourself or ask someone to call it on 101 or 112.
