The laying of potatoes and vegetables into the stabilization fund of the Vitebsk region in 2011 will be increased threefold, Alina Mironovich, Head of the Department for Processing Industry, Procurement and Product Quality of the Committee for Agriculture and Food of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee, told a BELTA correspondent. In total, for the upcoming inter-season period, it is planned to lay down 37 thousand tons of potatoes, 7.3 thousand tons of cabbage, 1.8 thousand tons of beetroot, 2.2 thousand tons of carrots, 2.4 thousand tons of onions, as well as 1.6 thousand tons of fruits (apples) in the region. The laying of agricultural products has already begun and will continue until November 15. The good harvest of vegetables and potatoes obtained in the farms allows for the full provision of the population with products, as well as the laying of the planned volume for the inter-season period, noted Alina Mironovich. For example, as of September 19, 67 thousand tons of potatoes have been harvested in the region, although only about 45% of its sown areas have been cleared. The harvest will be laid down in 135 storage facilities, 110 of which are managed by agricultural organizations, 18 by consumer cooperation organizations, and 7 by trading enterprises.
