The bill on amending the Constitution is ready for consideration in the first reading at the spring session, Valentin Semenyako, Chairman of the Standing Commission on State Building, Local Self-Government and Regulations of the House of Representatives, informed journalists today, as reported by a BELTA correspondent.
"According to the procedure, the bill has been prepared and approved by the standing commissions. We have received an opinion from expert bodies, minor technical amendments have been made, and, in fact, it is ready for discussion," said Valentin Semenyako.
According to him, the bill will be considered in the first reading as early as June. It is planned to be considered in the second reading at the autumn session of the parliament.
Today, a meeting of the special commission for the preparation of the draft law on amending the Constitution of the Republic of Belarus is taking place. "The commission includes the chairmen of the standing commissions of the House of Representatives. Deputies have also been invited to today's meeting. This is an expanded meeting where we will consider all procedural issues and make an appropriate decision," noted the parliamentarian.
The bill, submitted to the House of Representatives by the President, provides that parliamentary elections are held on a single voting day. Local Councils of Deputies of the 28th convocation will exercise their powers until the commencement of the powers of the local Councils of Deputies elected on a single voting day.
