The Lepel Inter-district Inspectorate for the Protection of Fauna and Flora reminds that in all fishing grounds, with the aim of preserving the zander population and creating favourable conditions for its reproduction, including during the pre-spawning and post-spawning periods from April 15 to May 30, a ban on catching common zander is established.

The ban is established in accordance with the Rules of Fishery Management and Fishing for the purpose of population conservation.
During the ban period, any accidentally caught predator must be released alive. Violation of the ban entails administrative liability under Part 1 of Article 16.25 of the Code of Administrative Offences of the Republic of Belarus in the form of a fine ranging from 10 to 30 base units, with compensation for damage resulting from illegal catch in the amount of 18 base units or 666 rubles for each zander individual removed from its natural habitat. If the damage amounts to one hundred or more times the base unit, the offender may be brought to criminal liability.
Being present in fishing grounds or on adjacent territories within a distance of up to 1 kilometre from the shoreline with fish, the catching of which is currently prohibited (zander), without documents confirming the legality of possession of the fish, is qualified under Part 3 of Article 16.25 of the Code of Administrative Offences of the Republic of Belarus and entails the imposition of a fine from 5 to 30 base units.
