Lepel Inter-district Inspectorate for the Protection of Fauna and Flora informs

The Lepel Inter-district Inspectorate for the Protection of Fauna and Flora informs:

that according to the Rules for conducting fishing and angling, a ban on catching European catfish is established from May 31 to June 1, and from November 1 to March 31.

European catfish is a large freshwater fish of the Siluridae family.

The coloration is mostly brown with shades of brown-green, the belly is white. Depending on the habitat, the coloration may vary.

Spawning occurs in spring in the coastal zone among aquatic vegetation. The female lays eggs in a nest, which the male guards. Sexual maturity is usually reached in the fifth year of life.

For each European catfish caught during the ban period, a citizen will have to pay triple damages, i.e., 12 base units, which amounts to 2,520,000 rubles. The citizen will also be held liable under Part 1 of Article 15.35 of the Code of Administrative Offences of the Republic of Belarus.

According to the Rules for conducting fishing and angling, a ban on catching the common pike is established from March 9 to April 25.

Pike spawning begins literally immediately after the ice melts from the reservoir. Its duration is not always the same – it all depends on the characteristics of their habitat. It is interesting that pike never spawn in the channels of large water bodies. It spawns only in small rivers. In lakes, spawning occurs later than in rivers. This is due to the later ice melt.

For each pike caught during the ban period, a citizen will have to pay triple damages, i.e., 9 base units, which amounts to 1,890,000 rubles. The citizen will also be held liable under Part 1 of Article 15.35 of the Code of Administrative Offences of the Republic of Belarus.

According to the Rules for conducting fishing and angling, the ban on catching the burbot ends on February 28.

The burbot is the only exclusively freshwater fish of the Gadiformes order. It has an elongated body, low, rounded in the front part and strongly compressed laterally in the back. The head is flattened, its length exceeds the maximum body height. The eye is small. The mouth is large, subterminal, the lower jaw is shorter than the upper. The coloration of the burbot depends on the nature of the substrate, the clarity and illumination of the water, as well as the age of the fish, so it is quite diverse: most often dark brown or blackish-grey, becoming lighter with age. The body length can reach up to 120 cm.
