The Holy Synod of the Belarusian Orthodox Church, chaired by Metropolitan Filaret, will hold a meeting in Vitebsk on September 29, the authorized representative of the Belarusian Exarchate for Media Relations, Priest Evgeny Svidersky, told a BELTA correspondent. The meeting is being held in Vitebsk because throughout the current week, significant events for the entire Belarusian Church have been taking place in the Polotsk and Vitebsk eparchies, located in the Vitebsk region, with the participation of bishops. In the Polotsk eparchy, which is celebrating the 850th anniversary of the creation of the Cross of Euphrosyne of Polotsk this year, on the eve of the Exaltation of the Holy and Life-giving Cross of the Lord, Metropolitan Filaret of Minsk and Slutsk, Patriarchal Exarch of All Belarus, led the all-night vigil at the Polotsk Holy Transfiguration Convent. In the Vitebsk eparchy, Metropolitan Filaret will lead the consecration ceremony of the Holy Assumption Cathedral of Vitebsk. The ceremony will take place on September 30. It is expected that not only high-ranking Belarusian clergy but also bishops from Russia and Ukraine will take part in it.
