The harvesting of potatoes and corn in the Vitebsk region is planned to be completed by October 1, the Committee for Agriculture and Food of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee informed a BELTA correspondent. As of the morning of September 22, 52.5% of the corn areas in the region have been harvested, or over 55 thousand hectares. The gross yield of green mass, including for feed, amounted to 1.8 million tons. These works are progressing rapidly in Lepel (70.8% of areas harvested), Polotsk (77.7%), Sharkovshchyna (79.9%) districts. The districts closest to completing corn harvesting are Braslav and Rossono, where less than 8% of the areas remain to be harvested. Farmers are also making no less effort to complete the harvesting of vegetables and potatoes as soon as possible. The daily harvesting rate for the latter is about 4% of the areas. In total, 54.8% has already been harvested, or over 3.6 thousand hectares. 76.4 thousand tons of this crop have been dug up with an average yield of 208.5 centners per hectare. The leading positions in potato harvesting are occupied by Lepel (65.5%), Miory (61.6%), Polotsk (71.3%), Postavy (77.9%), Sharkovshchyna (78.2%) districts. In the Tolochin district, where 620 hectares of potatoes are concentrated, 60.1% of potatoes have been harvested, 18.4 thousand tons have been dug up with an average yield of 493.1 centners per hectare – this is the highest potato yield in the Vitebsk region. Also, 44.1 hectares of cabbage (1 thousand tons harvested), 141 hectares of beets (2.6 thousand tons), 72.3 hectares of carrots (about 1.7 thousand tons), 45 hectares of onions (1.3 thousand tons) have been harvested.
