The harvest in the Vitebsk region is planned to be completed within two weeks. This was announced today to journalists by the Chairman of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee, Nikolai Sherstnev, in response to a question from a BELTA correspondent.
"To fully complete the harvest, we need 12-14 days. We should be done by the end of August. In principle, the region usually finishes harvesting around this time," stated Nikolai Sherstnev.
The Chairman of the Regional Executive Committee noted that the agricultural workers of the Vitebsk region are not spoiled by the weather. This year, the workers in the western districts, where clay soils predominate, had the most difficulties. In spring, they had no moisture for two months, and now they are suffering due to daily rains. "Nevertheless, 60% of the cultivated land in the region has already been harvested. It is also important that as of the morning of August 13, we have a full supply of food grain: over 60% has been supplied under state orders, and the rest is being processed at farms and grain processing plants," emphasized the head of the region.
Nikolai Sherstnev paid special attention to compliance with soil cultivation technology. In farms where it is adhered to, yields reach 70-80 centners per hectare, and on some so-called agronomists' fields, up to 120 centners per hectare. "This proves that high yields can be obtained in the region," said the head.
