The tax inspection for Novopolotsk, together with employees of the inter-district traffic police department of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee's Internal Affairs Directorate, stopped the illegal transportation of cigarettes worth Br84.5 million, the press center of the Ministry of Taxes and Duties Inspectorate for the Vitebsk Region informed a BELTA correspondent.
During operational control measures, tax officials and traffic police officers inspected a Fiat Ducato vehicle driven by a local resident on one of the streets of Polotsk. The vehicle contained 30,000 packs of Belarusian-made cigarettes with excise stamps, but the driver had no documents confirming the legality of their purchase. According to the inspectors, the citizen explained that he was transporting the cigarettes at the request of unknown individuals who offered him payment.
The tobacco products, transported in violation of current legislation, have been seized. An administrative offense report has been drawn up against the transporter. The offender faces administrative liability in the form of a fine of up to 50 base units (one base unit is Br35,000) with confiscation of the goods. -0-
