On May 29, Vitebsk /Diana Kurilo - BELTA/. A resident of Latvia attempted to illegally import photo lenses worth approximately Br120 million into Belarus, the assistant head of the Polotsk Border Guard Detachment, Denis Glebko, informed a BELTA correspondent.
The man entered Belarus from Latvia at the "Urbany" border crossing point (Vitebsk region) in an Audi car. During a routine inspection conducted by border guards and customs officers, 40 photo lenses were discovered that were not declared in the customs declaration. They were stored in the spare wheel niche in the trunk. The illegal cargo has been seized. An investigation is underway regarding this incident.
As Denis Glebko noted, attempts to smuggle sophisticated optics across the border are not uncommon, but this is the first such case recorded on the border with Latvia. -0-
