In accordance with clause 207-1 of the Traffic Regulations of the Republic of Belarus, when participating in road traffic from December 1 to March 1, vehicles with a technically permissible total mass of up to 3.5 tonnes inclusive, passenger cars and light commercial vehicles with a technically permissible total mass exceeding 3.5 tonnes, as well as buses with a technically permissible total mass of up to 5 tonnes, must be equipped with winter tires. Winter tires are installed on all wheels of the vehicle and must comply with the requirements of part two of clause 25 of Annex 4 to the Traffic Regulations.
Winter tires of mechanical vehicles intended for operation on icy or snowy road surfaces must be marked with a symbol in the form of a mountain peak with three peaks and a snowflake inside it, or with the markings "M+S", "M&S", "M.S", "M S", or "All seasons". Winter tires are installed on all wheels.
Many motorists may find the purchase of a set of winter tires an unaffordable luxury. On the other hand, due to the increased braking distance on summer tires, one can damage both their own and another's car. This would incur significantly higher costs and pose risks to one's own health.

It is best to experiment in a deserted area of the road and try braking first on a dry surface, and then on a slippery one. This will help you determine how the vehicle will behave in different road conditions and assess the difference in braking distance on roads with varying coefficients of friction. It is very important to be aware of the real capabilities of your vehicle, depending on the presence of certain electronic systems, and to remember its specific handling characteristics.
It is also important not to forget about the administrative liability for violating clause 207-1 of the Traffic Regulations. In accordance with Part 5 of Article 18.22 of the Code of Administrative Offences of the Republic of Belarus, this violation entails administrative liability in the form of a warning or a fine of up to 0.5 basic units.
