As of May 1, Belarus's international reserve assets, according to preliminary data, amounted to $7,882.9 million (in equivalent terms), the Information and Public Relations Office of the National Bank informed BelTA.

In April, gold and foreign exchange reserves increased by $96.2 million (by 1.2%) after a decrease in March by $1,018.4 million (by 11.6%).

The main factor for the growth in gold and foreign exchange reserves in April was the purchase of foreign currency by the National Bank at the trading sessions of OJSC "Belarusian Currency and Stock Exchange". The increase in reserves was also facilitated by the rise in the value of monetary gold and the inflow of foreign currency into the budget, including from the sale by the Ministry of Finance of foreign currency-denominated bonds on the domestic market.

In April, the government and the National Bank fulfilled external and domestic obligations in foreign currency to the amount of about $317 million.

According to the main directions of monetary policy for 2020, the volume of international reserve assets as of January 1, 2021, should be at least $7.3 billion.
