In September 2021, gold and foreign exchange reserves decreased by $36.8 million (0.4%) after an increase in August by $1054.3 million (14.2%).
"The decrease in the level of international reserve assets by the end of September was mainly due to the government's planned repayment of external and domestic liabilities in foreign currency amounting to about $240 million, as well as a decrease in the value of monetary gold. The inflow of foreign currency into the budget, as well as the National Bank's purchase of foreign currency on the trading floor of OJSC Belarusian Currency and Stock Exchange, contributed to maintaining the level of gold and foreign exchange reserves in September," the National Bank noted.
According to the main directions of monetary policy for 2021, the volume of international reserve assets as of January 1, 2022, should be at least $6 billion.
